COLLEGE PARK, Md. - It was a battle of the baskets. For the first eight minutes Maryland and Drexel traded baskets, swapping the lead twice and tying the score five times.
The Maryland women's hoops team (6-1) defeated the Drexel Dragons (2-2), 82-65, Sunday afternoon. The Terrapins are now 3-0 when scoring 80 or more points.
Maryland drew first blood with a three by freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang one minute into the game. Tchatchouang was a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc.
Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer made her first appearance four minutes into the first half and posted four points in less than 60 seconds of coming off the bench. Kizer was held from the starting lineup after suffering a sprained left ankle during Friday's game against Howard.
Sparked by a layup from Kizer at 11:55, Maryland went on a 13-3 run that spanned four minutes and included three trey's. The Terps headed into the locker room with a 45-35 lead.
The Dragon's made a few good shots to start the second half, but Maryland never relinquished their lead. The Terps kept at least a 10-point cushion between themselves and Drexel to finish the game.
Four players finished the afternoon with double digits for the fifth time this season. Senior guard Lori Bjork led the attack with a game-high 19 points, only missing one of her four attempted three-point shots. Tchatchouang posted 18 points, hitting 6-of-11 from the field. Sophomores Anjale Barrett and Kizer notched 10 and 13 points, respectively. Barrett added four assists and three steals.
Maryland returns to action Thursday, Dec. 3 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge against Minnesota at 7 p.m. ET in Comcast Center.
