COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland opened the game with a 13-4 run including a nine point performance by sophomore Kim Rodgers before the first media timeout to claim the title of the Terrapin Classic. The Terps defeated the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks 67-61 in the final game of the tournament.

Maryland's own Lynetta Kizer was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after her double-double performance against Stony Brook (13 points/10 rebounds) and her double-digit points scored against UNC-Wilmington. Also on the All-Tournament team was Terrapin senior Lori Bjork, Brittany Blackwell (UNCW), Treasure Johnson (UNCW) and Kristen Jeter (Stony Brook).

Rodgers was sidelined with an injury to her left hand but her efforts in the five minutes she played helped Maryland jump out to an early lead over UNCW, leading by as many as 15 points. Bjork also had a big part in the Terps' performance shooting a season high-tying four treys before the first half was over. Bjork's 12-point effort helped maintain the Terrapins' lead despite an impressive rally from the Seahawks which took them on a 12-1 run to close the gap to 34-30.

Teams headed to their locker rooms with 39-32 on the board.

The first five minutes of the second half saw little action until Kizer sparked a 9-0 run with a layup and three consecutive made free throws. The streak was what the Terps needed to secure the lead.

UNC-Wilmington (5-6) showed balanced scoring throughout the game but Maryland (11-2) was able to outlast and outmuscle the Seahawks. For the 12th time this season the Terps outrebounded their opponent grabbing 39 boards over UNCW's 27. Three Maryland players recorded double-figure points while freshman Tianna Hawkins led all teams in rebounding for the second consecutive game with 11 boards. Tchatchouang had a team-high 14 points followed by Kizer's 10. Kizer was just shy of earning her third straight double-double after pulling down eight rebounds. Freshman Dara Taylor was again impressive at the point dishing out eight assists and adding nine points.
