COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Alyssa Thomas had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Kim Rodgers scored 13 of her 17 points during a 17-0 first-half run, and No. 14 Maryland extended its domination of Wake Forest with a 75-44 victory Friday night.
Sophomore Tianna Hawkins had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Terrapins, who led 42-18 at halftime and 59-28 with 12 minutes left. Maryland (17-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won 10 straight over the Demon Deacons and leads the series 51-12.
Thomas, the reigning ACC Rookie of the Week, notched her fifth double-double in six ACC games.
Sandra Garcia scored 14 for Wake Forest (10-12, 1-5). The Demon Deacons are 0-7 on the road and have lost four in a row overall.
Wake Forest trailed 25-18 before Rodgers took over. After a follow-shot by Hawkins, Rodgers drilled three consecutive jumpers from 3-point range and then sank a layup. Thomas added a basket before Rodgers made two foul shots to put the Terrapins up by 24 at the break.
Maryland coach Brenda Frese substituted liberally in the second half, and Maryland rode out the clock in its fourth consecutive win.
Wake Forest last defeated the Terrapins in 2003, and it became apparent early that its run of futility would not end on this night.
Maryland trailed for the only time in the game, 3-2, before Thomas scored five points in a 10-0 run that included a lengthy 3-pointer by Diandra Tchatchouang.
After Wake Forest closed to 13-12, Thomas made a layup and two short jumpers in a 12-2 spurt that put the Terrapins up by 11.
The Terrapins controlled the boards for the 18th time in 20 games this season, outrebounding the Demon Deacons 54-35. Maryland scored 32 points in the paint to Wake's 16.
The Demon Deacons went 7 for 28 from the floor and committed 12 turnovers in the first half.
Wake Forest absorbed another beating on a date that has not been historically kind to the program. The Demon Deacons are 0-13 on Jan. 28, including six defeats by at least 30 points.
