Biography

As a Redshirt Freshman (2016): Served as Maryland’s main third baseman with 49 starts in 53 games played…batted .218 with five doubles…scored 21 runs and drove in 19 with 27 walks…opened the season with a hit in game one against Alabama before scoring twice in game two (2/19-20)…notched a pair of doubles over three games against Rhode Island (2/26-28)…went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI against Delaware (3/1)…went 3-for-4 with a career high four RBI and a double against Tennessee at the Keith LeClair Classic (3/4)…went 2-for-4 against Bryant (3/12)…recorded a hit, runs scored and an RBI against Bryant (3/13)…scored a run in a 1-for-4 performance at UC Irvine (3/16)…notched a hit and drove in a run against Cal State Fullerton (3/18)…reached base three times and scored a run against Liberty (3/22)…went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored against VCU (3/29)…notched a hit in each game in a three-game set with High Point (4/1-3)…went 1-for-3 with a run scored against James Madison (4/6)…reached base twice and scored a run in a win over Ohio State (4/10)…went 2-for-3 and reached base four times with an RBI at Minnesota (4/15)…recorded a hit and an RBI against Minnesota (4/17)…scored a pair of runs in a three-game series against Purdue (4/22-24)…finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI at James Madison (4/26)…notched a hit and two RBI at Penn State (4/30)…reached base three times, with a run and an RBI against Illinois (5/8)…went 1-for-3 with a walk at West Virginia (5/10)…walked and scored a run against Rutgers (5/13)…went 1-for-2 with a run scored, two walks and an RBI against Rutgers (5/15)…doubled, scored a run and drove in one at Michigan State (5/19)…appeared in all four games of Maryland’s Big Ten tournament run with one hit.

As a Freshman (2015): Appeared in eight games and started seven…posted a .231 average with six hits, four runs and four RBIs…made his first career start in the opening game against Western Kentucky and scored a run (2/13)…notched his first career hit against Old Dominion and also scored a run (2/14)…nabbed his first career two RBI game against South Alabama (2/20)…posted consecutive two-hit games against Arkansas (2/22) and Appalachian State (2/27)…missed the remainder of the season due to injury...received a medical redshirt.

At Garnet Valley: A four-year letterwinner for the Jaguars at shortstop … named the 2014 AAA Pennsylvania Player of the Year … selected a 2014 All-Atlantic Honorable Mention by Perfect Game USA … rated the top middle infielder in Pennsylvania and 18th nationally by Perfect Game USA … a first team All-Delco selection in 2013 and 2014 … selected first team All-Central as a junior … named second team All-Southeastern PA in 2013.

Personal: Selected in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers … became the second shortstop in three years to be drafted out of Garnet Valley High School … son of Scott and Pam Bechtold … has a younger brother, Michael, and younger sister, Annie … father, Scott, played football at Syracuse and baseball at Delaware … would cast Channing Tatum to play himself in a movie of his life.
