Head Coach John Tillman announced the return of 2017 National Champion goalie Dan Morris to the Maryland lacrosse program in February of 2020 to serve as the program’s new Director of Operations.

“I’m incredibly excited to have Dan back as a part of our program,” said Tillman. “Dan has seen success at the highest level of lacrosse, winning a championship in the professional ranks and a National Championship as a Terp. But above all, his accomplishments in the classroom and in the community during his time at Maryland make him an outstanding role model for our team, and now he’ll have an opportunity to make a positive impact on our young men during their Maryland careers. His leadership, work ethic, and attention to detail will be a huge asset for us in this role this season and beyond.”

Morris returns to College Park less than a year removed from winning the inaugural Premiere Lacrosse League Championship as a member of the Terp-heavy Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club. Prior to joining the Whipsnakes, Morris was selected 50th overall in the Major League Lacrosse Draft by the New York Lizards. Additionally, Morris served as a volunteer assistant coach at Endicott College and the Director of Peak Goalie Camps in Beverly, Mass.

Morris finished his Maryland career as one of the program’s most accomplished goalies both on and off the field, as he was named a two-time All-American, a 2018 All-Big Ten selection, a 2018 Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American, a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a 2017 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to come back to the University of Maryland,” said Morris. “To be able to work for the team and the school that has been such an enormous part of my life is a dream come true. I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve its goals in any way I can and hopefully pass on some of the lessons I learned as a student-athlete under Coach Tillman.”

Morris served as Maryland’s starting goalkeeper during the program’s historic National Championship run in 2017, compiling a 16-3 record with 200 saves, .548 save percentage and 8.75 goals against average. Morris made eight saves in UMD’s semifinal win over Denver, before making 11 stops and holding #3 Ohio State to just six goals in the 2017 Championship game.

The Dallas, Texas native finished his Maryland career seventh in program history with 410 career saves, while posting a 30-7 record as the team’s starting goaltender for two seasons.

Morris earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland in 2017, before completing a Master of Science in Business and Management in December of 2018.
