The Breakdown: An athletic shot stopper with a flair for the dramatic, St. Clair emerged as one of the best keepers in the country over his final two seasons, leading the Terps to the national championship his redshirt junior year. The Canadian Youth National Teamer made game changing saves in Maryland's Elite Eight triumph over Kentucky and in the College Cup Final against Akron. St. Clair also becamean on-field leader for the Terps and a favorite among the fans for his emotional play. He will be remembered as one of the best to suit up between the sticks in College Park.
The Story:
As a Redshirt Junior (2018): Started all 23 matches and played every minute in goal for the national champion Terps...led the nation in goalie minutes played (2.194), was 11th in the nation in goals against average (.66), was 12th in the nation in save percentage (.833), finished third in the nation in shutouts (13)....notched 81 total saves...did not give up a goal for the final 500 minutes of the season, including the entire NCAA Tournament....notched shutouts in the final five matches of the year...named United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team...notched six saves in the opener at Washington (8/24)...notched consecutive shutouts against ranked Stanford (8/31) and Virginia (9/3) squads...recorded five saves in a loss to UCLA (9/8)...tallied six saves in a shutout win against West Virginia (9/10)...notched four saves in a shutout win at Rutgers (9/26)...tallied five saves in a shutout win over No. 7 Denver (10/16)
As a Redshirt Sophomore (2017): Started all 19 matches and played every minute in goal for Maryland...notched a 0.99 goals against average...named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week (9/12) after holding then-No. 4 Indiana scoreless and adding a career-high six saves, including two incredible stops in the first overtime period...helped Maryland post three-consecutive shutouts vs. Cal Poly (9/4), Indiana (9/8) and Rutgers (9/12).
As a Freshman (2015): Recorded a shutout and three saves in his first career game against St. John's (8/30).
Before Maryland: U-18 Canadian National Team goalkeeper…played soccer at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School…played for Vaughan Soccer Club where he helped squad win League 1 Ontario Cup championship.
Personal: Dayne St. Clair was born on May 9, 1997…son of Fabian and Julie St. Clair…has one sibling, Arisa…served as Student Athletic Association President while in high school….chose Maryland for the “rich tradition of winning and producing pros”…major is psychology.
