  • Title
    Assistant Coach - Diving
Head coach Sean Schimmel announced the hiring of Tom Davidson as an assistant coach for the Maryland swimming and diving program in September, 2011.

Prior to spending the last two seasons with the Jayhawk Diving Club, Davidson served three seasons as head diving coach at the University of California-Berkley.

During his time with the Golden Bears, Davidson consistently qualified divers for both the NCAA and NCAA Zone Diving Championships, in addition to having several student-athletes garner PAC-10 honors. In 2009, Davidson helped guide California's women's swimming and diving team to its first PAC-10 and NCAA championships in the history of the program.

"Tom is going to bring his experience as an elite level Division I coach to the Maryland swimming and diving program," Schimmel said. "Tom knows what it takes to recruit top-level athletes and then develop them to the NCAA level. Bringing a diving coach to Maryland that has coached athletes to the NCAA championships and Honorable Mention All-American status is what we need.

"Tom is going to challenge and develop our student-athletes to that elite level of success. We are all really excited about what the future holds for the Maryland divers."

Davidson joined the UC Berkley staff after serving as head diving coach at Illinois State University from 2005-2006. He has also coached at the high school and club levels in addition to his work in the collegiate ranks.

As a student-athlete, Davidson was a six-time All-American at Indiana University and four-time Big Ten champion. He was also a three-time NCAA championship qualifier.

"I'm really excited to work with the Maryland program and can't wait for the season to start," Davidson said. "I am thrilled to be here and ready to see what our divers can do in the always-competitive ACC. I am excited to work with the coaching staff in helping to build the program into something even better than it is today."

Davidson received his bachelor's degree in management from Indiana in 2001. He also earned a master's degree in business administration from Illinois State University.
