Camron Hammond enters his first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Maryland softball program. Hammond will serve as the infield coach while assisting with hitting, defensive game-planning, and scouting responsibilities.
Hammond joins the Maryland coaching staff after previously assisting Julie Wright at Idaho State University. In 2015, Hammond helped lead the Bengals to a 34-18 record and a Big Sky Conference regular season championship. In addition to winning the conference title, the 2015 team set a program-record .971 fielding percentage (which also ranked 30th nationally) and helped develop the Big Sky Player of the Year in current Maryland assistant Vicky Galasso.
Prior to joining the staff at Idaho State, Hammond played two seasons of baseball at the College of Idaho. During that time, he helped the Yotes win 60 games, starting primarily at shortstop and second base. In his best season, Hammond hit .304 and was a perfect 18-18 in stolen base attempts. He led the Yotes to two NAIA Region I Tournament berths and was named an NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete.
A native of Parker, Idaho, Hammond graduated from South Fremont High School and was named the 2006 Idaho High School State Player of the Year in both baseball and basketball.
Hammond graduated with his Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University and his Bachelor’s degree in Communication from BYU-Idaho in April of 2013.
He and his wife Emily have two children, Finley and Maddux.
