Tommy Santiago joined the Maryland staff in September of 2014 after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. John’s since July of 2011.

St. John's 2013-14 campaign ended with the program's second ever appearance in the BIG EAST Championship game. It was also the Red Storm's first season over .500 since 2004.The Red Storm completed the season with a .961 fielding percentage and produced 27 double-plays, an improvement from the previous season's 17 DPs and good enough for seventh in the nation.

Santiago was in charge of a defense that finished the 2013 season with a .954 fielding percentage while turning 17 double-plays and one triple play. 

Santiago helped St. John’s enjoy a 20-point jump in fielding percentage from the 2011 to the 2012 season. 

Before his time in New York, Santiago spent three seasons at Florida State as an assistant coach. The Seminoles went 158-90 (.637) and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament during Santiago’s tenure. The Seminoles also captured the 2011 ACC Tournament title.

Prior to joining Florida State, Santiago spent the 2007-2008 season as an assistant at South Suburban College in South Holland, Ill. Santiago was an assistant varsity baseball coach at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, his alma mater, for five years before joining the collegiate softball coaching ranks.

As a player, Santiago earned All-Collegiate Conference honors at Parkland College before transferring to Campbellsville, where he received All-Mid-South Conference honors. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree exercise science and sports medicine.
