Maryland softball head coach Julie Wright announced the addition of Victoria "Vicky" Galasso as assistant coach in August of 2018. Galasso will serve as the Terrapins' hitting coach while helping assist in all facets of the program.
"Vicky is an outstanding young talent who brings a great eye for the game," said Wright. "She is an impressive teacher and a high character individual. Her ability to develop our players as complete student-athletes will have a huge impact. I cannot wait for her to get started."
Galasso joins the Maryland coaching staff after serving as a head coach in the Utah Batbusters Club Softball organization. Galasso was also a personal trainer at LIFT at Station Park and crossfit coach at Ogden Athletic Club.
Before her time with the Batbusters, Galasso was an assistant coach for Weber State University during the 2016-17 season. At Weber State, she helped coach the team to a 37-22-1 record and a Big Sky Championship. Takesha Saltern was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year during Galasso's tutelage, while ten Wildcat earned All-Conference honors that year. Galasso's hitting system powered Weber State to a .344 average in conference play.
"I am so excited to be a part of the Maryland family," said Galasso. "I look forward working with Coach Wright and making a positive impact on this program. Thank you to the search committee for allowing me the opportunity to help the Terps on their journey to compete for a Big Ten Championship."
Galasso had an award-winning career at Idaho State University, where she played four years under Wright. Galasso was a two-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Year, a three-time NFCA All-Region honoree and a USA Softball Top-50 Watch List selection while garnering ESPNW National Player of the Week honors during her career. Galasso played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch League for the Dallas Charge and Chicago Bandits. In her rookie season on the Chicago Bandits, Galasso was a member of the Bandits' league championship team.
While playing in the NPF, Galasso also served as an assistant strength coach at Idaho State from 2015-16, working with the softball program among several other programs. Her duties included training athletes in strength, power, flexibility, speed, agility and endurance while also working with student-athletes in exercise physiology.
