University of Maryland Athletic Director Damon Evans announced the hiring of Libby Ellis as the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration in June 2021.
In her role, Ellis supervises a variety of sports, including Field Hockey, Women’s Golf, Gymnastics, Women's Lacrosse, Tennis, and Volleyball. She also manages all Big Ten and NCAA Championship events, leads all Teamworks communication initiatives, assists with organization of all camps and clinics, and serves as the lead for the Sports Administrators Team.
Prior to this role, Ellis served under Head Coach Brenda Frese as Director of Basketball Operations with the Maryland women’s basketball program for 8 years, after serving one year as Director of Recruiting Operations. As Director of Basketball Operations, she oversaw all aspects of team travel, program budget, scheduling and logistics, and served as a liaison between women's basketball and multiple departments within athletics. Ellis served the day-to-day needs of student athletes, including coordination and communication of housing, equipment, academics, and other needs. She was part of seven conference regular-season championships, seven conference tournament titles, and two Final Fours.
Throughout this time, Ellis also assisted with hosting NCAA Championships for the Men's and Women's Lacrosse and Field Hockey programs in College Park. Additionally, as co-chair of the athletic department VoTERP committee, she collaborated with campus and local government constituents to implement the use of XFINITY Center as a Prince George's County polling site for the 2020 Presidential General Election, ultimately serving over 16,000 voters.
Ellis was a four-year student manager for the Terrapins' women's basketball program. In her senior season, she served as a director of operations intern, assisting with all responsibilities of scheduling, travel planning and general program operations.
A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Ellis earned her degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, and her Masters of Business Administration from UMGC in 2018.
