Josh Bonnin is in his first season as Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Maryland women’s soccer team after being named to the position on August 4, 2015.
Bonnin previously served as an assistant coach with American University, a post that he held for the 2014 season. Bonnin was also on the staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2013 season.
While at American, Bonnin helped oversee a team in 2013 that reached the Patriot League semifinals, the best tournament finish for the program in over 10 years.
Bonnin worked with both field players and goalkeepers at American and tutored Eagle goalkeeper Charlie Belanger to fourth nationally in save percentage (.885) and 17th nationally in saves (116) in 2013.
An accomplished youth coach, Bonnin served as a Maryland Olympics Development coach in 2012 and 2015. He has served as a coach at prestigious youth programs around the area including McLean Youth Soccer, Potomac Hotspur and Brit-Am Soccer Academy.
He has also spent time on the University of Maryland campus, serving as a head coach at Maryland’s men’s soccer camps for three years.
Bonnin has also served as an assistant coach on many premier level youth teams in the area. He is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and holds a USSF A license.
As a player, Bonnin played for noted youth clubs such as Olney Soccer Club, Potomac Soccer Club and Reston Soccer Club. He as a part of squads that won the NSCL Division I title and participated at the USYSA National Championships and SuperClubs National Championships. He started for three years at Sherwood High School.
Bonnin graduated from Virginia Tech in 2004 with a bachelors in psychology. He played for two seasons with the Hokies on scholarship before his career was cut short due to injury.
