Lydia Frierson joined the Maryland staff in May of 2018 in a volunteer assistant capacity. Frierson assists in planning and leading training sessions, manages the team’s schedule and uniform selection and assists in player development.
Frierson is a recent graduate of Charleston Southern University where she played soccer, ran for the track and cross country team, and received a BA in Communications with an emphasis in Theater and a minor in Health Promotion.
Frierson comes off a four-year soccer career at Charleston Southern where she captained the team for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, played in 70 games and was named to the Big South All-Academic team three times. She was also the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at CSU.
While at CSU, Frierson also interned with the school’s sports information department as well as the Chapelgate Presbyterian Church.
Prior to working with Maryland, Frierson coached youth soccer for Suarez Soccer School Training. There she led lessons and drills for kids in the academy. She was also pivotal in the family aspect of the development of young soccer players, engaging and interacting with the families of the children she coached.
Frierson is a native of Laurel, Md. and attended Chapelgate Christian Academy in Marriottsville, Md. where she led her team to a pair of conference championships in 2010 and 2011 while also being named all-conference all four years.
