Kevin Clements enters his third season as assistant coach for Maryland after being joining the staff in 2005. In his first year at Maryland he coached Sasha Malanina to an ACC Championship finish in the 400 IM.
Clements came to College Park after a head coaching position for the Roland Run Stingrays and Mariners Swim Club.
He completed a successful career at Auburn in 2002; he was part of four SEC championships and the 1999 National Championship. He set three Auburn school records in the 400 IM, 500 free and 1650 free. Clements also swam to five SEC conference titles and swam to 13 NCAA All-American Honors. Clements finished third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 400 IM, and fifth in the 400-free at the 2000 Olympic Trials, and he finished fifth in the 200 IM at the 2004 Olympic Trials.
After a successful career at Auburn, Clements swam professionally for Speedo while part of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. During his time in Baltimore, Clements became the second-fastest American ever in the 200 IM and in 2004 was the National Champion in the 400 IM.
Clements is happily married to Jaqi Philipps.
