Kyle Thompson

Kyle Thompson was announced as Maryland's Director of Volleyball Operations on Aug. 15, 2017. In spring of 2023, Thompson added additional responsibilities, and now serves as Director of Volleyball and Softball Operations.

At Maryland, Thompson oversees a variety of duties including day-to-day program operations, team travel, budgeting, scheduling, camps and assisting visiting teams. He serves as the liaison for volleyball support units, including academics, facilities, business office, marketing, compliance, the ticket office, alumni and donor relations.

Thompson has helped Maryland find a home in the Big Ten since his arrival with the team becoming on the best blocking teams nationwide. The team has collectively ranked among the best in blocks per set while Rainelle Jones led the NCAA with over 1.7 blocks per set individually during her tenure with the Terps. After Jones departed, Thompson helped Eva Rohrbach and Anastasia Russ maintain Maryland's status as a powerhouse blocking team in 2023.

In addition to his role on the Maryland volleyball staff, Thompson serves as a coach for Metro Volleyball Club of Washington D.C.

Thompson comes to Maryland after serving as the program coordinator for the University of Washington's volleyball program working with their coaching staff on recruiting efforts, video management and day-to-day operations. While in Seattle, he also was on staff with the Washington softball program as their Assistant Director of Softball Operations.

Thompson holds a Master of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington. He completed his dual degrees of B.A. in International Studies as well as B.B.A. in International Business from Texas Lutheran University. While at Texas Lutheran, Kyle served as the student assistant coach for the volleyball program and was a 4 year letterwinner for the Bulldog men's tennis team honored as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic All-American all four seasons. Thompson is a native of Huntsville, Texas.
