Maryland women's golf head coach Kelly Hovland welcomed Marissa Kirkwood as an assistant coach in August 2024. Kirkwood comes to College Park after playing professionally for the last three years.

Kirkwood played for the Kent State women's golf team from 2016-2021 and won four MAC Championships. She earned All-MAC Second Team honors. Kirkwood helped the Golden Flashes to four NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championship appearances. She went on and played professionally on the Epson Tour from 2022-2024.  

"I am excited to welcome Marissa to our program," Hovland said. "She brings a great perspective from her college and professional golf careers. Marissa played at the highest level of golf while also learning from some of the top coaches in college golf at Kent State. "

"I am excited for the opportunity to serve as Women's Assistant Golf Coach at the University of Maryland.," Kirkwood said. "The program's vision to create an exceptional experience for student-athletes and its commitment to pushing them to reach their full potential resonates with me. I share this vision and I am dedicated to fostering an environment where athletes can thrive both on and off the course. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the program as well as learning from Coach Hovland."

Kirkwood graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Sports Administration and a Business Minor in 2021.Â
