Michael Rovetto

Michael Rovetto was promoted to Social Media/Content Manager on Jan. 5, 2026. In his role, he manages and oversees social media strategy and execution for Maryland Athletics’ main accounts across all platforms, while supporting all varsity sports, including football and men’s and women’s basketball. He also assists with content creation across all programs and serves as an editor for the department’s staff writer.

Rovetto joined Maryland Athletics as a Staff Writer in January 2024, where he was responsible for writing, editing, developing, managing, and publishing daily content on umterps.com. His work has earned national recognition, with stories picked up by the NCAA, Big Ten, and others. He received six 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Fred Stabley Sr. writing award nominations, including one District 2 winner and five runner-up honors.

In addition to his editorial work, Rovetto served as the scriptwriter for the 2024 Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony, narrated by the late Johnny Holliday, and contributed to social media content across multiple sports.

A graduate of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, Rovetto previously wrote for Sports Illustrated’s Fantasy Sports On SI page. He also interned with PressBox and covered Maryland men’s basketball for the Baltimore-based publication. 

As a student, he worked with Terrapin Sports Central. He contributed to projects published by Capital News Service, including Lethal Restraint, a police use-of-force investigation named a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting, and the Youth Tackle Football project, in conjunction with the Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism and the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism.  

A native of Oak Ridge, New Jersey, Rovetto earned his associate degree from County College of Morris. He played for Maryland’s club flag football team, which finished as the runner-up at the 2023 NIRSA Championship Series National Championships.
