Resa Lovelace was promoted to Associate Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Development and Inclusive Excellence in July 2023. Overall, she enters her ninth school year in 2026-27, working in Gossett Hall.
Lovelace came home to Maryland in September 2018, where she leads the Maryland Made Student-Athlete Development Program. Lovelace now also leads and guides the department’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives in addition to managing the Maryland Made program, which includes the Gossett Fellows program, the Kubasik First Impact program, the InTERPship Academy, Student-Athlete Advisory (SAAC), Pre-Health Terps, and the International Student-Athlete Working Group.
Prior to Maryland, she worked at the University of Oregon as the Director of Student-Athlete Development, after being promoted from Student-Athlete Development Coordinator. Her responsibilities included developing programs for student-athlete career and leadership development, creating diversity and inclusion initiatives for the department, and overseeing the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She also served as the Director of O Heroes, a nonprofit organization that runs community engagement programs with student-athletes. She was instrumental in the Diversity & Inclusion campaign, BEOREGON, which started conversations with student-athletes, coaches, and administrators about “Being your authentic self.” Within the campus community, Lovelace served as Chair of the Black Strategies Group, which focused on retaining Black faculty, staff, and students at the University.
An advocate for diversity and inclusion, she has been a speaker at the NCAA Inclusion Forum and the University of Oregon Law School to discuss LGBTQ issues in sport. Most recently, she served on the NCAA Common Ground Board, where she led discussions with religious institutions on LGBTQ topics.
Prior to Oregon, Lovelace was the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Affairs at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. During her four-year stint at George Mason, Lovelace developed career and personal growth programs, advised the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, organized NCAA-required drug and alcohol, gambling, and other educational programs, and represented Intercollegiate Athletics across campus initiatives.
Lovelace has extended herself to many initiatives, projects, and programs through the NCAA. In 2016, she completed the NCAA Leadership Institute, and in 2012, she served as a facilitator for the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. During 2014-15, she was a member of the NCAA Life Skills Yearly Initiatives Action Team, helping address the growing demands for student-athlete development at the institutional, conference, and campus levels.
She has been an active member of Women Leaders in College Sports for the past twelve years. As an active member of Women Leaders, she has served as Co-Chair of the Academics & Student-Athlete Development Circle and the Mentor Program Committee, and on the Education & Professional Development Committee.
A native of College Park, Maryland, Lovelace holds a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Sports Management from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Management from Hampton University, where she was an NCAA collegiate bowler. She's married to Nathalie Pierre-Philippe and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Maryland, with research focused on inclusive leadership, employee engagement, and innovation within Division I athletics departments.
