Coaches Comments From Maryland-Fairleigh Dickinson

Nov. 22, 1999

MARYLAND HEAD COACH GARY WILLIAMS:

"I liked our rebounding tonight ... but I think the big thing tonight was our playing more aggressively. We're going to make mistakes, but as long as we're aggressive, I think we can play against great competition."

On Drew Nicholas:

"Drew [Nicholas] can shoot when he gets the looks ... the thing I'm watching is that his game is coming. He made some passes tonight that I don't think he could when practices started. He's a smart guy. He's learning the offense very well. He's able to get the ball to open people ... (and) he's quietly becoming a better defensive player."

"We know we can play. We have to prove that we can do this night in and night out. This is the way we have to play. If we can sustain this for the next couple of weeks, I'd be pretty happy."

On Kentucky:

"It will be an interesting game ... if we can contain their inside people, that is going to be a part of it. [Going to New York] to play these good teams - I like that for this team ... but I'd like to think that Kentucky enjoys playing against Maryland, that it's a good experience for them."

FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON HEAD COACH TOM GREEN:

"I know that we were playing a team that was ranked No. 22 in America. If you asked me to vote right now, I'd vote them a lot higher. My hat is off to Gary Williams and what he has done with this team. He lost some great players from last year's team and in a very short period of time."

"They jumped on us right away and the knockout punch was delivered very early. This was a first round TKO. Gary's got this team in high gear. At 3-0, they hopefully have the confidence to go into the game against Kentucky."

"I didn't know [Juan] Dixon was quite as good as he was tonight. He and [Drew] Nicholas are incredible shooters. They both stepped it up tonight and have gotten great experience as underclassmen."
