College Park, Md.-- - P> Two Maryland senior standouts have been selected to play in the Umbro Select College All-Star Classic on Feb. 3-6, 2000, at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Jason Cropley (La Canada, Calif.) and Emily Janss (Brandon, Fla.) will join 78 other college seniors who will participate in the pair of games. Both will represent Maryland on the East squad.
The teams were selected by a special committee commissioned by the Umbro Select College All-Star Classic, with the help and cooperation of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The East-West men's game will be played Saturday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. with the East-West women's game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
The team's second-leading scorer with seven goals and seven assists, Cropley was a one of two seniors on the 1999 Terrapin squad, which finished 14-6. The California native finished his career ninth on Maryland's career goals list with 29, fifth on Maryland's career assists list with 16, and sixth on Maryland's career points list with 76. A second-team all-ACC selection and second team NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region pick, Cropley was also named ACC Player of the Week once this season for his two-goal effort against Clemson which gave Maryland the 2-0 win at Riggs Field for the Terps' first victory there since 1988. He also received a spot on Soccer America's Team of the Week that same week.
Janss finished a stellar Maryland career with 17 goals and 42 points, finishing ninth all-time in both categories. The midfielder was highly decorated in her final season, collecting All-ACC first-team, Soccer Buzz All Mid-Atlantic first team, and NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic third-team accolades. She was also named to the ACC All-Tournament team in 1999. In addition to her postseason honors, Janss was a Soccer America Team of the Week pick three times and was named ACC Player of the Week and SoccerTimes.com National Player of the Week on Oct. 19. The second-leading goal scorer for the Terps who went 11-10-1, she started all 22 games as a senior.
