Maryland Stuns ACC Co-Leader Florida State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's volleyball team upset ACC co-leader Florida State in a thrilling five-game match at Ritchie Coliseum on Friday night. The Terps recorded their most impressive win of the season winning 15-12, 9-15, 5-15, 15-13, 16-14. After falling behind two games to one, Maryland (11-15, 4-11) rallied in the fourth game, hitting .319 as a team, to win 15-13 and force Florida State (22-9, 11-4) into a fifth-game with rally scoring. In the final game, the Terps came up with the win behind the powerful attack of senior middle hitter Jaime Summers (Conneaut Lake, Pa.), who registered the game-winning kill.

Summers had one of her finest matches of the season as she led the Terps with 18 kills and a dominating .467 kill percentage. She was also one of four Terps with double-figures in digs, posting 12. Red-shirt freshman Katie Cramer (Loveland, Colo.) also put forth one of her best outings of the season with 15 kills, a .229 kill percentage and a team-high 16 digs.

Freshman setter Libby Alberts (Eden Prairie, Minn.) put up 52 assists in the five-game match and also totaled 14 digs. Junior Beth Murphy (Golden, Colo.) chipped in with 11 kills and 15 digs. The Seminoles were led by senior outside hitter Holly Schneider (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who posted a team-high 15 kills, along with nine digs. Sophomore Jennifer Werrick (Lakeland, Fla.) had 13 kills and tied for team-high honors in digs with 14. LaToya Washington (Detroit, Mich.) also had 14 digs. Mayland finishes out its regular season on Saturday afternoon as the terps host Duke at 5 p.m. at Ritchie Coliseum. Maryland will then play host to the ACC Volleyball Tournament at Ritchie Coliseum on Nov. 19 though Nov. 22.
