BEACH BECOMES ALL-TIME CAREER ASSIST LEADER
Maryland senior midfielder Keith Beach became Marylands all-time assist leader after posting an assist in the Terps 3-2 overtime win against top-ranked Duke on Sunday. Beachs career-assist total now stands at 26, replacing the 34-year old record set by Eberhard Klein, who had previously totaled 25 career assists. Beach leads the ACC in assist with a 1.00 per game average.
TERPS FIGHT BACK TO DOWN TOP-RANKED DUKE
Maryland senior forward Pierre Venditti scored at the 95-minute mark in overtime to lead Maryland to a 3-2 win against top-ranked Duke. Down 2-0 with 25 minutes to play, the Terps rallied, scoring two goals ina span of 10 minutes, to push the game to overtime. The Blue Devils scored at the 16- and 64-minute marks before the Terps would begin to play an aggressive style of offense. Junior midfielder Jason Cropley would find the net first at the 65-minute mark, and freshman Taylor Twellman would score his ninth goal of the season at the 76- minute mark to tie the game. The Terps outshot the Blue Devils, 15-11, and sophomore Christian Lewis totaled three saves.
DUKES STREAK ENDS, MARYLAND ROLLS
Duke entered Sundays match with an 8-0 record and was riding an eight-match win streak. Maryland entered Sundays match with a 5-2 record and a three-match win streak. Maryland was the last team to defeat the Blue Devils -- a 4-2 washing in the semifinals of the 1997 ACC Tournament. Maryland has not lost a match since Sept. 12 when the Virginia Cavaliers handed the Terps a 4-1 defeat.
AND THE SUCCESS CONTINUES
Maryland head coach Sasho Cirvoski owns a 6-2 record against the Blue Devils following Sundays 3-2 overtime win. The last time the Blue Devils defeated a Cirovski-coached Terp team was in 1993, his first season at Maryland, when they handed the Terps a 3-2 regular-season loss and a 3-2 ACC Tournament loss.
SARDIS NOTCHES TWO GOALS TO LEAD TERPS PAST HOWARD
Maryland sophomore forward Jason Sardis recorded his first two goals of the young 98 campaign, and added an assist, to lead Maryland to a 3-1 defeat against Howard. Freshman forward Taylor Twellman scored his eighth goal of the season, and moved his consecutive scoring streak to five matches. Twellman scored first at the 32-minute mark off an assist by Randy Merkel and Sardis. Sardis would score at the 39-minute mark from 25 yards out, and again at the 54-minute mark.
TERPS TRAVEL WEST
Maryland travels to the West Coast this weekend to participate in the Nike/Coca-Cola Classic which is being hosted by Santa Clara. Prior to Saturdays matchup with the Broncos, the Terps meet San Francisco on Thursday. This marks the first time a Cirovski-coached Maryland team has traveled west. Santa Clara enters Saturdays match with a 6-1-1 record while San Francisco owns a 1-7 record, its only win coming against Fresno State. Saturdays meeting with Santa Clara marks only the second time in school history that the two teams have met. The Terps handed the Broncos a 3-2 loss at last years Diadora/3 Brothers Classic in College Park, Md.
TWELLMAN EARNS ACC HONOR
Maryland freshman forward Taylor Twellman earned ACC Player of the Week honors after his performance in Marylands upset win against top-ranked Duke last Sunday. He totaled one goal and one assist in the win.
MARYLAND HEAD COACH SASHO CIROVSKI
Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski is in his sixth season at the helm of the Terrapin program. He owns a 66-40-8 record with the Terps, and in his eight years of coaching, he owns a 92-52-14 record. Cirovski has guided the Terps to four consecutive NCAA Tournament second round appearances and one ACC championship. Most recently, he coached defensive standout Leo Cullen who was the first player selected in the 1998 MLS draft by the Miami Fusion.

ARMAS AND MERKEL CLIMBING ASSIST LADDER
Maryland senior midfielders Steve Armas and Randy Merkel are moving up on the career-assist ladder. Armas and Merkel are tied for fourth with 17 career assists. Keith Beach became Marylands all-time assist leader following the Terps 3-2 overtime win against Duke when he charted the game-winning assist.

Maryland senior midfielder Keith Beach is nearing the top 10 on the all-time career points ladder. Beach currently has totaled 56 career points. Former Terp Gary Furlong is ranked 10th all-time with 60 points.

MIXING IT UP
Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski is mixing his lineup around because of the abundance of depth on the young Maryland squad. In Sundays match against Duke, Maryland freshman Taylor Twellman and sophomore Jason Sardis each started in the forward position, while a later look at the lineup found Jason Cropley and Twellman playing up front. Sardis replaced senior Pierre Venditti in the starting lineup on Sunday.
TOUGH AT LUDWIG
The Terps own a 25-8-3 record at Ludwig Field since its opening in 1995. Their best record was in 1996 where they recorded a 9-3-1 record.
TWELLMAN AMONG ACC LEADERS (as of Sept. 28)
Maryland freshman Taylor Twellman leads the ACC in points scored, averaging 3.14 points per game, and also leads in goals scored with nine, an average of 1.29 goals per game; Twellman is also ranked sixth in assists with four, a 0.50 per game average; senior midfielder Keith Beach leads the ACC in assists with eight for an average of 1.00 per game; sophomore goalkeeper Christian Lewis is ranked fifth in the ACC in goals against average with a 1.37 average, and he is fourth in save percentage with a 3.25 average.
BEACH NAMED HERMANN TROPHY FINALIST
Maryland senior co-captain Keith Beach is one of 15 finalists for the prestigious Hermann Trophy which honors the nations top male and female collegiate soccer players. The award will be announced on Dec. 12 at the NCAA Mens Soccer Championship in Richmond, Va.
