Baseball Team Defeats Coppin State, 28-2

College Park, Md. - Junior second baseman Jason Mohap (Ashland, Pa.) hit three home runs, leading Maryland (7-13-1) to a 28-2, seven-inning victory over Coppin State (1-18) today at Shipley Field.
Mohap hit a two-run blast inning the second inning, as the Terps scored eight runs and took an 8-0 lead. He then led off the fourth inning with a solo home run and capped off his day with a grand slam in the fifth inning. In addition, Mohap had a RBI double in the Terps 13-run third inning.
Senior left fielder Eric Beer (New City, N.J.) hit a two-run home run in the third inning and junior designated hitter Craig Munroe (Thornhill, Ontario) hit a three-run shot in the same inning.
On the mound, senior co-captain Mike Wooden (Baltimore, Md.) turned in a solid performance, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight batters in four innings of work. Wooden returned to the lineup after being on the injured reserve list the past two months. His record improves to 1-0 on the season.
Maryland travels to Duke for a critical three-game series against the Blue Devils this weekend. The two teams will square off Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
