COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior midfielder Kristin Sommar (North Wales, Pa.) scored at the 65:23 mark in overtime, and the Terps (10-0) held on to a 12-11 come-from-behind victory against the fifth-ranked James Madison Dukes (7-2) Saturday afternoon at Byrd Stadium.
The game was as close as the score indicated all afternoon long with neither team able to control more than a two-goal lead, and for the first time this season, the Terps found themselves trailing late in the second half. The game was knotted at 8-8 at the 46:50 mark before JMU senior attack Jamie Pleyo netted her fifth goal of the afternoon off an assist from Megan Riley at the 53:50 mark and give the Dukes a 9-8 lead. Maryland junior midfielder Christie Jenkins (Media, Pa.) found the net a little over two minutes later to tie the game for the fifth time in the contest. Maryland sophomores Jen Adams (Brighton, Australia) and Allison Comito (Glen Head, N.Y.) would chart back-to-back goals, respectively, to give the Terps an 11-9 lead, their largest since the 4:20 mark of the first half.
Jenkins led all Terps on offense with three goals while sophomore Quinn Carney (Flemington, N.J.) added two goals and an assist. Adams also contributed two assists.
In goal, Maryland junior Alex Kahoe (Villanova, Pa.) recorded 10 saves while James Madison's Jen Corradini totaled 16 saves.
Maryland returns to Ludwig Field on Wed., April 7, at 4 p.m., hosting Towson.
