COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Redshirt freshman Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.) has entered the Amateur Wrestling News Top 20 after an impressive 8-1 start to his collegiate career. TERPS RETURN FROM HOLIDAYS FOR TOUGH WINTER SCHEDULE
After returning to compete in the Wilkes Open on Dec. 28, the Terrapin wrestling team has spent its winter vacation preparing for a demanding January schedule. On Jan. 9, the Terps compete in the Millersville Invitational, a tournament that they have won for the past two seasons, and then face a number of challenging opponents. During the string of five dual meets, Maryland will compete against rivals Navy, North Carolina State and North Carolina.
TERPS SLIDE BY COPPIN STATE IN DUAL SEASON OPENER
Ted Harlan was one of five winning Terp wrestlers as Maryland held off Coppin State, 19-16, in its first dual match of the season. Harlan, who has won five of his last six duals dating back to last January, defeated Matt Jewer, 4-3. The Terps have never lost to the Eagles in wrestling.
Other winners for the Terrapins included Bill Moore, junior Mike Tomaino (Allenhurst, N.J.), redshirt freshmen Rob Booth (Atco, N.J.) and true freshman Bryan Robinovitz (Belle Mead, N.J.), who won by forfeit. Tomainos 10-0 major decision turned out to be the critical win, giving Maryland a nine-point lead heading into the final matches.
