Men's Soccer Takes a Break From ACC Action

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland (8-4) takes a break from ACC action this week, traveling to Richmond (6-4-2) on Wednesday for a 7:30 match with the Spiders, and returning home to host William & Mary (7-4-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Richmond handed the Terps a 1-0 loss at Ludwig Field last season, while in its first meeting with William & Mary two years ago, the Tribe shut out the Terps, 3-0, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Ludwig Field.
TERPS DROP KEY ACC MATCHUP TO NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina freshman midfielder Chris Leitch scored at the 104:36 mark off an assist by freshman midfielder Daniel Jackson to lift the Tar Heels to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against the 18th-ranked Maryland Terrapins. Both teams played to a scoreless first half, when at the 56:15 mark, Maryland freshman forward Taylor Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) scored on an un as sist ed goal off of a rebound ed shot, which he took on the play previous.
Tar Heel goalkeeper William Woodroffe saw the ball rebound off his chest and Twellman was able to head the ball in the net. North Carolina's Michael Bucy would score the Tar Heels' first goal of the evening at the 71:58 mark when he put back a ball off an indirect kick.
LEWIS POSTS THIRD SHUTOUT OF SEASON IN 3-0 WIN AGAINST MASON
Maryland sophomore goalkeeper Christian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) post ed his third shutout of the season, and freshman Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.) scored a goal and added an assist to lead the 18th-ranked Terrapins to a 3-0 win against the 15th-ranked George Mason Patriots last Wednesday. Senior forward Pierre Venditti (Milford, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal at the 9:09 mark. Keith Beach (Northport, N.Y.) totaled two assists to up his season total to 10.
BEACH ON SINGLE-SEASON ASSIST CHART
Maryland senior Keith Beach (Northport, N.Y.) is tied for fifth on the single-season assist chart with 10 assists so far this season. Gino Ferrin leads all Terps in single-season assists with 14.
BEACH'S TWO ASSISTS MOVE HIM INTO 10TH PLACE ON ALL-TIME POINTS CHART
Maryland senior midfielder Keith Beach (Northport, N.Y.) cracked the Maryland top 10 all-time career points chart after totaling two assists in last Wednesday's match against George Mason. Beach currently has to taled 60 career points which ties him with former Terp Gary Furlong for 10th place.

BEACH BECOMES ALL-TIME CAREER ASSIST LEADER
Maryland senior midfielder Keith Beach (Northport, N.Y.) became Mary land's all-time assist lead er after posting an assist in the Terps' 3-2 overtime win against top-ranked Duke on Sept. 27. Beach's ca reer-assist total now stands at 28, replacing the 34-year old record set by Eberhard Klein, who had previously totaled 25 career as sists. Beach leads the ACC in assists with a .91 per game average. He is also ranked sev enth in the nation in assists per game.
MARYLAND MATCHES LONGEST WIN STREAK
Maryland's five-match win streak matched its longest since the end of the '96 season. Prior to their loss at No. 18 Santa Clara on Oct. 3, the Terps had not lost a match since their 4-1 loss at Vir gin ia on Sept. 12. In 1996, the Terps won five straight at the end of the season, including a three-match sweep in the ACC Tournament to capture the cham pi on ship, be fore losing to William & Mary (3-0) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland's longest winning streak is nine games which dates back to 1986.
A WHOLE LOT OF SCORING GOING ON
Maryland has nearly doubled its opponents in goals scored. The Terps have totaled 28 goals to their opponents' 15. The Terps have almost tripled their opponents' assist total, totaling 37 to their opponents' 14.
TWELLMAN EARNS ACC HONOR
Maryland freshman forward Taylor Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) earned ACC Player of the Week honors after his performance in Maryland's upset win against top-ranked Duke on Sept. 27, and its 3-1 win against Howard. He totaled two goals and two assists in the Terps' two wins.

Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski (Wis con sin-Milwaukee, '85) is in his sixth season at the helm of the Terrapin program. He owns a 68-42-8 record with the Terps, and in his eight years of coaching, he owns a 94-54-14 record. Cirovski has guided the Terps to four consecutive NCAA Tournament second round appear ances and one ACC championship. Most recently, he coached defensive standout Leo Cullen who was the first player selected in the 1998 MLS draft by the Miami Fusion.
CIROVSKI SIX SHY OF 100 WINS
Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski (Wis con sin-Milwaukee, '85) is six wins shy of career-win No. 100. He has an eight-year career record of 94-53-14.
TOUGH AT LUDWIG
The Terps own a 26-9-3 record at Ludwig Field since its opening in 1995. Their best record was in 1996 where they recorded a 9-3-1 record.
