Postgame Quotes- Maryland Men's Basketball vs. Wake Forest

Jan. 19, 2000

Recap| Box Score

Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams

"I was really pleased with our effort. Obviously, we shot the ball well early, and that was great, but the effort of Tahj Holden, Lonny Baxter, Danny Miller, Juan Dixon and Steve Blake -- who had to defend O'Kelley and handle the ball for us -- were great."

"To get that first win in the ACC is exciting for the new guys especially. A lot of pressure was on us tonight, being, 0-3, to play well. We got the win, everything looks a little better now, and that's a start."

On Holden: "You don't expect that, to be honest. I just wanted him to rebound and play with a lot of energy. But, he made his first shot, and got comfortable. It didn't surprise me with the looks that he had that he made those shots.

On Team Defense: "We didn't have anyone out there that wasn't working. We're not the type of team that has the luxury of not giving anything less then an all-out effort all the time. We did that tonight. That was a great effort and the defense showed it."

Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Odom

"Cole Field House is a difficult place to get out of a hole. I thought our kids tried to recover the best they could. It was a ten point deficit at halftime and we talked about winning the game. I felt like we could do it, and I felt we had some chances in the second half. We were trying to be aggressive, but the ball just wouldn't go in, and they were able to build back up the lead and it was tough sledding from there."

"We looked out of sync tonight, I guess that's the best way to put it. Starting the game, Maryland looked about as comfortable shooting the ball as they could. I don't remember too much except for the first play when it looked like no one was guarding them."

"Maryland's got to be given a lot of credit, They're a really good team, I feel like its the best halfcourt team I've seen at Maryland in quite some time."
