Dec. 14, 2000
Maryland Coach Gary Williams
(on his teams' rebounding)
"I was very pleased with our rebounding tonight. We had 44 to 29 against a good rebounding team. Size isn't everything in rebounding...you have to get after it, and we got after it tonight. We realized that the margin (opponents) had created in the first six games, so that was one of the things we emphasized tonight."
(on Maryland's second-half play)
"I like the way we moved the ball in the second half. We were really unselfish with the ball and it seemed to get to the right guy."
(on Juan Dixon)
"Juan Dixon was stroking it tonight. You could really tell he was on his game. He was getting some good looks. Juan has a really good inside/outside game...he gets points in the lane no matter who we play against."
(on Danny Miller)
"I thought Danny Miller came in and really played aggressively tonight. There were several loose balls in the first half when we stretched it out."
(on the Terps' overall effort)
"I thought it was a good, solid effort for this time of the year, with exams starting tomorrow. It is sometimes hard to concentrate in these situations -- (after exams) is an important time of year for us and we need to stay focused."
UMBC Coach Tom Sullivan
(on Maryland)
"I think they are a tremendous team. Maryland is a nationally ranked team and obviously I think they deserve to be there. They are so deep and they keep coming at you with more weapons. I think the one thing they are able to do is play ping-pong on the offensive boards. They limited us to one shot on the defensive boards and obviously their press harassed us. I think that is why they have a great shot at having a successful season."
(on the play of Juan Dixon)
"Juan did a great job defensively and that gets his offense going. He managed to get himself open within their system, which I think is a wonderful thing. Once her got himself open, he really banged it home."
(on the performance of Lonny Baxter)
"Baxter is easily one of the strongest players I have seen in a long time and I spent 10 years at Seton Hall when we went to the national championship game. Baxter is just a bull on the blocks and he makes his living down there. I am sure he wants to do that for Gary so it is a wonderful thing. It's nice to see a big kid who wants to make a living on the blocks, except when he is on the other team."
