WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Maryland-GW Post-Game Quotes
Maryland coach Gary Williams:
"We knew we had to play well against George Washington. They always give their best and we were able to handle it today. It was a gut-check for us, because they always come after you and we were able to handle it. Our bench has been a very constant factor for us this year, not just this weekend.
Tahj Holden has done a great job to give us an inside presence in addition to
Lonny Baxter. When he's in the game we can match strength vs. strength, as we did today.
"Byron Mouton has been coming off the bench, but started both games this weekend, and has handled both situations really well. He gives us toughness in the backcourt.
"George Washington made a nice run in the second half. But we were able to maintain our composure and come back and win the game. Our defense has been a key all year for holding teams to shooting percentages below what they are used to shooting. And as long as our defense continues, our offense will get better as we get into the season.
"I thought we had played well against Wisconsin, but didn't get the win. So I knew we were heading in the right direction as long as we didn't get down. Against Michigan we were obviously ready to play. I thought we were tough enough to win that game today, it's never going to be pretty when you play George Washington....I thought the last six minutes we did a great job running the offense and playing with confidence.
"Terence [Morris] will be fine. I have the utmost confidence in Terence. He is a senior who has been through a lot, and he will be there for us as the season goes along. Sometimes I think that there is some pressure, like you think you have to play great instead of just playing like you've played to get yourself to that level. And that's all we want Terence to do -- to play like he's capable of playing."
