ELON COLLEGE, N.C. -
Nathan Holcomb pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits, as Elon (5-3) defeated Maryland (1-5) 6-2 in baseball action on Sunday at Newsome Field.
Elon took advantage of a pair of Terp miscues in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Jason Mohap, however, cut the lead to 3-1 on a solo home run to start off the second inning.
The Fighting Christians stretched their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning, then scored a pair of runs with two outs in the seventh inning to go up 6-1. All three runs were unearned, as the Terps made five errors during the game.
Craig Munroe struck back with a one-out solo home run in the ninth inning, but Holcomb held on to secure the win.
Maryland's next game is against Howard on March 3 at 3 p.m. at Joe Canon Stadium in Harmans, Md.
