Clemson Beats Maryland Baseball Team 11-2

CLEMSON, S.C. - Jeff Baker went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI, leading Clemson (19-3, 3-0 ACC) to an11-2 win over Maryland (5-14, 0-3 ACC) in the second game of an ACC baseball doubleheader at Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday. With the win, the Tigers sweep their three-game series against Maryland, including a 9-3 win in the first game of the doubleheader.

Clemson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Baker drilled a two-out, two-run single into left field. Ryan Hub extended the lead to 3-0 when he singled home a run in the bottom of the third inning.

The Terps got a run back in the top of the fifth inning when Kevin McDonald scored on a sacrifice fly by Chuck Easter. In the bottom of the fifth inning, however, the Tigers sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs, four of which were unearned.

Clemson got two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Baker launched a RBI double to spearhead the attack.

Jason Mohap, who had three hits on the day, cut the margin to 11-2 when he singled home a run in the top of the seventh inning.

The Tigers held Maryland scoreless the rest of the game.

Maryland travels to Florida A&M for a pair of seven-inning games on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m.
