Terps Trounce American 7-0 In Final Scrimmage

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's soccer team prepared for the 2000 season with a sparkling 7-0 victory over American in its final scrimmage on Monday night at Ludwig Field. The Terps jumped all over the Eagles early, scoring four goals in the first 30 minutes. Seven different Terps scored in the victory.

Junior Terri Greer (Woodbridge, Va.) opened the scoring off a pass from freshman Katie Ludwig (Mt. Laurel, N.J.). Senior captain Julie Nelson (McLean, Va.) gave the Terps a 2-0 lead on a direct kick only minutes later.

Freshman midfielders Audra Poulin (Silver Spring, Md.) and Ludwig continued the onslaught with the third and fourth goals to close out the first 30-minute period.

Sophomore Kim King (Media, Pa.) took a pass from Valerie Lawrence (Silver Spring, Md.) and netted the fifth goal to make it 5-0 after 60 minutes.

Junior Debbie Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.) scored off an assist from junior Sara Gustafson (Reisterstown, Md.) to make it 6-0 and sophomore Dana Jarzyniecki (Rochester, N.Y.) closed the scoring for the 7-0 shutout at Ludwig Field.

In nets, senior Riki-Ann Serrins (Mission Viejo, Calif.) played the first 60 minutes and freshman Kristen Barnhill (Charlottesville, Va.) came on to seal the whitewash.

The Terps open their 14th collegiate season this Friday night at Yurcak Field in New Jersey as they face host Rutgers at 7 p.m. Maryland opens its home season against preseason No. 4 Penn State next Tuesday night, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
