Terrapin Trio Preps For USA Training Camp Beginning Friday

Aug. 6, 2001

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Lonny Baxter, Juan Dixon and Tahj Holden travel to Denver, Colo., this week, to participate in USA training camp for the World University Games. The Terrapin trio are a part of 16 athletes chosen for the training camp from a tryout in June at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Twelve of the 16 will be chosen for the USA's roster at the World University Games, conducted Aug. 22-Sept. 1 in Beijing, China.

Maryland placed three members of its 2001-02 roster onto national team training camp rosters, as did defending national champion Duke, who had three members selected among 16 finalists selected Sunday for the USA World Championship For Young Men Team. The World Championships are held Aug. 3-12 in Saitama, Japan.

Maryland's Steve Blake teamed with Duke's Jason Williams last season while helping the U.S. qualify for the World Championships, at the World Championships For Young Men Qualifying Tournament in Brazil.

Duke's Carlos Boozer, Chris Duhon and Dahntay Jones (a Rutgers transfer) were among those chosen after four training sessions last weekend.
