European Memories: The Terps Relive A Great Experience

Sept. 5, 2001

The Maryland women's soccer team will be writing about some of their favorite memories from the trip to Europe. Check them out below.

Head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski:
I have a few funny thoughts from the trip to Europe.

  • When Steve ordered a McFluffy at McDonalds (McFlurry)!

  • The freshman dancing on the bus after our first game.

  • Kerry calling me "Spot" at the prefessional game we attended because I spilled a "spot" of mustard on my shirt.

  • Having pizza on the patio after our fourth game ... we needed a little American food by that time.

    Junior Valerie Lawrence:
On one of our bus rides, Audra Poulin and Lindsay Givens got up to the front of the bus and grabbed the microphone after a little convincing, and sang a duet of "Cruisin' Together." Audra was the male voice and Givens with her choir background, was the female voice.

Sophomores Jen Biscoe and Audra Poulin:
We wrote a joint memory of Europe because we spent so much time together while we were there. Every day we spent about four hours on a bus and we always sat together (because everyone else wanted to sleep).

In Holland, there are millions of cows. Every time we would pass by a cow or any type of farm animal we would make that certain animal noise. Jenny's moo became so realistic that Audra began to think there was a cow on the bus. Audra's moo sounded like a cow in labor. After a while, everybody got sick of our sound effects and told us to shut up.

When we retired from sound effects, we took up singing. Big mistake -- nobody enjoyed that either. Some people thought we were still trying to make farm animal noises. Some other bus activities that we all did to keep ourselves occupied were: The "what would you rather do" game, dance parties, singing and joke-telling, riddles, the killer game (where one person is the killer and you have to try to figure out who they are before you are killed. The killer gets you by winking at you), and the psychiatrist game. You have just read some of Audra and Jenny's most memorable experiences on the bus in Europe!!!!

    Senior Sara Gustafson:
It was a great trip. We went spelunking in the caves. We got to ride bikes with lights on them. My favorite memory came when Audra (Poulin) was in our group during this session, and all of a sudden we heard a crash and then a "man down." Audra ran right into the wall. That was my favorite part.
