COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland (No. 4 AP, No. 4 USA Today/ESPN) takes a 2-0 ACC mark and a four-game win streak into Atlanta to face Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. The game is to be televised nationally on ESPN.

* Maryland returned to the top five in both major polls this week, for the seventh week this season. Maryland opened the year at No. 2 by the AP, and has spent a total of four weeks at No. 2 this season.

* Senior center Lonny Baxter returned to the lineup against North Carolina last Wednesday, scoring nine points with seven rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Baxter missed the Norfolk State game last Thursday with a sprained right ankle suffered on New Year's Day. Against the Tar Heels, he became the 14th player in Maryland history to reach the 1,500-point scoring plateau.

* The Terrapins have split a pair of meetings with the Yellow Jackets in each of the last two seasons, though they have won 9 of the last 11 games in the series. Maryland won seven straight games between 1996 and 1999, but have lost in Atlanta the last two seasons. Maryland's last victory at Alexander Memorial Coliseum was a 77-62 decision on Jan. 19, 1999.

* Maryland is 8-0 at home this season, the Terps' longest season-opening home streak since winning eight to begin the 1999-00 campaign. The last time Maryland won more home games to begin a season, the Terps went undefeated (16-0) at Cole in 1994-95.

* Maryland has won 12 of 14 games this season, and 22 of its past 26 games dating to last year's Final Four campaign.

* In their last outing, the Terps manhandled North Carolina to the tune of 112-79, recording the most points the Tar Heels have ever allowed. The 33-point margin represented North Carolina's worst loss since 1964, and its second-largest defeat in ACC history, behind a 104-69 loss to Duke in February 1964. Maryland tied a school record with 13 3-pointers, led by as many as 39 points late in the game, and got career efforts from its backcourt duo of Steve Blake and Juan Dixon. Blake had a career high 14 assists, and was one rebound from recording just the second triple-double in Terrapin history (12 points, nine rebounds). Dixon, meanwhile, matched a career-best with eight steals while leading all scorers with 29 points. Other scorers in double figures included Byron Mouton with 17 points, and Chris Wilcox with 16.

* In Maryland's last three ACC home games, the Terps have won by 29, 35 and 33 points. To end last season, Maryland beat NC State 95-66 and ended the home campaign with a 102-67 rout of No. 7 Virginia. Last Wednesday, the Terps dismantled North Carolina 112-79.

* Senior guard Juan Dixon enters Sunday's game at Georgia Tech just three points shy of becoming the sixth player in Terp history to score 1,800 points. He needs only eight points to pass Tom McMillen in fifth place on Maryland's career scoring list.

TERP STREAKS
* Maryland has won four straight games, and 12 of its last 13.

* The Terps own an 11-game home win streak dating to last season, including eight home wins to begin 2001-02.

* Counting the final month of the 2001 season when the Terps played five NCAA Tournament games and won 10 of their last 12, Maryland has won 22 of its last 26 games. Its only losses have come to Duke, Arizona and Oklahoma.

* Maryland owns the nation's longest non-conference homecourt win streak which spans 84 games and over 12 years. The streak began on Dec. 30, 1989 against Alcorn State. The Terps' last non-league home defeat was on Dec. 12, 1989 vs. Coppin State. The streak will continue at the Comcast Center in 2002-03.

* Maryland has played 124 consecutive home games at Cole Field House since suffering consecutive home defeats. The last time Maryland lost back-to-back home dates was during the 1992-93 season.
