Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams
On Clemson:
"This is the same team that beat Virginia when they were the No. 2 team in the country so obviously they had some confidence coming into this game."
On Maryland's defense:
"Defensively, we have to get more emotional. We were a little flat tonight, and you can't be a good defensive team without being emotional. That almost cost us the game tonight. It is exciting to outscore the NBA but the other team did too. That's a problem."
On the play of Drew Nicholas:
"Drew is playing great. He is deceiving because he has long arms. He takes advantage of that. When he takes that jump shot in the lane, he gets up really high."
On the play of Chris Wilcox:
"I liked his 14 rebounds -- it was a good thing he was rebounding, because if he wasn't, we would have been in trouble. He had great numbers -- 28 minutes was probably the most that Chris has ever played. He's just a sophomore and he's building up his endurance as he goes. Tonight he really came through for us."
Clemson Head Coach Larry Shyatt
Opening statement:
"The game was probably played a little faster than we would have liked on the defensive end. I would have hoped that we would have defended for longer periods of time, which we did not. I thought we did an excellent job on the glass against an extremely experienced, talented team."
On the way the game played out:
"There were a couple of big 3's made by Maryland down the home stretch. But I thought we played harder than we had and smarter especially on offense and I am very disappointed we didn't make the important free throws down the home stretch, but I like the way we earned going to the foul line. We probably should have earned some more opportunities."
On the overall feeling of the Tigers:
"This group is not pleased and they feel they had a very good opportunity that slipped away."
On Maryland:
"They have so many weapons. [They are] certainly one of the most three or four talented teams in the country. When you collect talent and experience you get yourself a whale of a ball club, which they certainly have. So you pick your poison, and we chose to try to increase their 3-point shot attempts and decrease their inside feeds. And in the end, they were balanced and they got the ball inside way too much."
