COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland (No. 3 AP, No. 3 USA Today/ESPN) takes a 6-1 ACC mark and an eight-of-nine game win streak into Thursday's conference battle at Virginia (No. 8 AP, No. 5 USA Today/ESPN). Tipoff from University Hall in Charlottesville is 7 p.m., and will be aired live nationally on ESPN2.
* Maryland is 16-3 overall and 6-1 in the ACC after consecutive wins over Clemson, Wake Forest and Florida State. A win on Thursday will keep Maryland in stride with Duke atop the ACC standings. A Maryland win would produce Maryland's 17th win in 20 games and a 7-1 league record through the first run of the ACC schedule - the third such occasion for both feats since Gary Williams has been at Maryland: 1995, 1999, 2002.
* Virginia is 14-3 overall and 4-3 in the ACC, losing 94-81 at Duke last Sunday.
TERP NOTES & STORYLINES
* A Maryland victory will keep the Terps in a first place in the ACC standings with top-ranked Duke.
* The 156th meeting between the Cavaliers and Terrapins is just the second between top 10 teams. Thursday's game is the 1tth in which both schools have been ranked among the top 25, including both encounters last season, but the second in which both teams were in the top 10. No. 2 Virginia downed the 10th-ranked Terrapins 66-64 on Jan. 14, 1981.
* Maryland has won 16 of its last 18 games, and 26 of its past 31. Maryland's five losses in the stretch have come to Arizona, Duke (3) and Oklahoma - all on the road.
* Maryland remained in the top five in both major polls this week, for the 10th week this season. Maryland opened the year at No. 2 by the AP, and has spent a total of four weeks at No. 2 this season.
* Terrapin guard Juan Dixon scored 25 points, with career-tying marks of 11 rebounds and eight assists in the win over Florida State, to become the first player in ACC history - and the eighth in NCAA history - to register 1,800 points and 300 steals in a career. Dixon became the 27th player in NCAA history with 300 steals. He needs just 100 points and six 3-pointers to become the first player in Division I history to register 2,000 points, 300 steals and 200 3FGs.
TERP STREAKS
* Maryland has won eight of its last nine games, and 16 of its last 18 - losing only road games to top-ranked Duke and No. 5 Oklahoma during the stretch.

* The Terps own a 13-game home win streak dating to last season, including 10 home wins to begin 2001-02. Maryland's nine straight home wins this season represent the Terps' longest season-opening home streak going undefeated (16-0) at Cole in 1994-95.
* Maryland has played 126 consecutive home games at Cole Field House since suffering consecutive home defeats. The last time Maryland lost back-to-back home dates was during the 1992-93 season.
* Maryland owns the nation's longest non-conference homecourt win streak which spans 84 games and over 12 years. The streak began on Dec. 30, 1989 against Alcorn State. The Terps' last non-league home defeat was on Dec. 12, 1989 vs. Coppin State. The streak will continue at the Comcast Center in 2002-03.
