  • Maryland won its Atlantic Coast Conference opener for the third straight season, downing the Yellow Jackets for the third straight game in the series and the fifth time in the last six games between the schools. The Terps defeated Georgia Tech for the ninth straight season in College Park. The last time the Yellow Jackets defeated the Terps on their home floor was in 1994 at Cole Field House.

  • By winning its ACC opener, Maryland extended what has become a school-record 13-game ACC win streak, dating to its last ACC loss at Duke on Jan. 17, 2002. The defending ACC regular champs also kept alive an 11-game ACC win streak on their home floor, dating to their last loss on Feb. 14, 2001 vs. Florida State.

  • Maryland has won 20 of its last 21 ACC basketball games, the best stretch in school history.

  • Senior guard Drew Nicholas eclipsed 20 points for the fourth time of his career, netting a new career-high 29 points against the Yellow Jackets and setting a new career-high in an ACC game. Nicholas shot 8-of-19 from the floor including three 3-pointers, and 10-of-13 from the foul stripe. He also posted a career-best seven rebounds.

  • Senior forward Ryan Randle scored 20 points for the Terps to mark the first time this season that two players both scored 20 points or more. Randle was one point of his career scoring high of 21 points.

  • Maryland freshmen Nik Caner-Medley and Travis Garrison started together for the second straight game, marking the first time that true freshmen had made consecutive starts in a Maryland uniform since Feb. 22, 1996 - when Obinna Ekezie and Terrell Stokes made their third successive starting appearance (Wake Forest, Missouri, at NC State) ... Caner-Medley has started five games this season ... Against UMBC on Dec. 23, Caner-Medley and Garrison become the first freshman starting duo at Maryland since Steve Blake and Tahj Holden against Iona in a March 16, 2000 NCAA Tournament game.

  • Senior forward Tahj Holden returned to the Maryland lineup after missing the UMBC game on Dec. 23 due to a death in his family. It was his first game this season, though, to play while coming off the bench.

  • With eight assists in the game, senior All-America candidate Steve Blake now totals 814 for his career, 21st on the all-time NCAA assists chart and three from passing Michigan State's Mateen Cleaves in 20th. Blake is currently fifth in ACC history.

  • Senior Calvin McCall missed his first game of the season. He did not dress due to a sprained ankle sustained during practice on Saturday.
