COLLEGE PARK, Md. - When Maryland hosts NC State on Sunday at 4 p.m. (FOX Sports Net) in ACC men's basketball action, it will mark the fourth time that Maryland and NC State have met on Super Bowl Sunday, but the first since 1977. The Terps and Pack met in memorable matchups: No. 3 NC State beat No. 2 Maryland 87-85 on Jan. 14, 1973, No. 4 NC State beat No. 3 Maryland 80-74 on Jan. 13, 1974, No. 15 Maryland beat unranked NC State 87-80 on Jan. 9, 1977.

The last time that Maryland played at Cole Field House on Super Bowl Sunday, the No. 7-ranked Terrapins defeated No. 10 Duke, 74-70 on Jan. 26, 1997. It also was the last time that the Super Bowl was played in New Orleans.

For Super Bowl prognosticators, the AFC has won the Super Bowl on all three previous occasions that Maryland and NC State have played on Super Bowl Sunday.
