COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland's Juan Dixon, a 6-3, 164-pound senior from Baltimore, Md., scored 43 points in two games last week to guide Maryland to a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference victories and run its record to 8-1 in the league, its best nine-game mark in the ACC 1980. He was named the ACC's player of the week for the second time this season and the sixth time in his career.
At fifth-ranked Virginia last Thursday, Dixon netted 16 points with four assists. He had one 3-pointer and was 5-for-5 at the line, but perhaps his most important bucket was a running jumper with 31 seconds left to lift the Terps to a one-point lead and overcome a 9-point deficit. Against NC State on Sunday, Dixon scored a game-high 27 points and added four steals and three assists. He scored 16 of his 27 points in the second half as the Terps pulled away from the Wolfpack. He was 5-for-8 from 3-point range to become the 22nd player in ACC history with 200 3FGs.
Ranked 20th in NCAA history with 311 steals, Dixon now needs just 57 points to become the first player in NCAA Division I history with 2,000 points, 300 steals and 200 3FGs.
