SATURDAY, MARCH 9, 2002 o 1:00 p.m.
BYRD STADIUM (48,055/Grass), COLLEGE PARK, MD.

o The No. 7 Maryland men's lacrosse team will get its chance at revenge as the No. 5 Towson Tigers come to College Park for the first time since upsetting third-seeded Maryland, 12-11 in the NCAA Quarterfinals last May 20, 2001. The game will be broadcast live on WMAR Channel 2 in Baltimore and on WMUC radio (88.1 FM) and accessible on umterps.com. TOWSON-MARYLAND CONNECTIONS
o Of course when two schools are located less than an hour away there are many connections with the teams. Here are a few:

o The mother of Maryland's brother combination of senior captain Mike LaMonica (Parkton, Md.) and sophomore Dan LaMonica (Parkton, Md.) is Towson gymnastics coach Lynda Filbert.

o The son of Towson football coach Gordy Combs is 2001 Terp lacrosse All-American Andrew "Buggs" Combs, who became the second player in the storied history of Maryland lacrosse to score 50 goals in a season, which he did last year.

o Former Maryland coach Dick Edell, who retired from the school on Sept. 3, 2001, is a 1968 Towson graduate and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 1980.

o Two of Towson's assistant coaches -- Stan Ross and Paul Cantabene -- played their college lacrosse for Maryland head coach Dave Cottle, when he was the head coach at Loyola. Ross, a 1996 Loyola grad, was a two-year starter under Cottle in helping the Greyhounds to NCAA bids in each of his seasons in Baltimore. Cantabene graduated from Loyola in 1993, when he was a second-team All-American at midfield. He also helped the Hounds to the 1990 NCAA finals, which was also Cottle's first trip to the national championship game.

o Many Terps and Tigers have been high school teammates as well. Most prominently, three Terps (Jamie Daue, Craig Hochstadt and Dan LaMonica) all played at Boys' Latin with Towson midfielder Hunter Lochte. Also, the Terps' Matt Urlock was teammates with Towson's Brad Reppert at Loyola Blakefield High School in Towson -- the same school 2001 Maryland honorable mention All-American Chris Malone is a serving as an assistant coach, this season. Fellow Severna Park High School graduates Paul Gillette and Dave Wagner of Maryland will face Towson's Adam Baxter and Josh Cornett.
