The coach of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference and a finalist for numerous national coaching honors, Maryland men's basketball coach Gary Williams was honored on April 22 as the Eastern College Coach of the Year with the Harry Litwack Award at the Philadelphia-area's Herb Good Basketball Club dinner.
The 56th annual dinner annually honors the best basketball accomplishments in the East and surrounding the Philly metro area. Williams is a graduate of nearby Collingswood (N.J.) High School and was successful in guiding the Maryland Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA men's basketball championship.
Williams, finishing his 13th season at his alma mater and his 24th year as a college head coach, has taken the Terrapins to back-to-back Final Four appearances while finishing the 2002 campaign with a 32-4 record and a No. 1 national ranking.
