The nominees for the 10th Annual ESPY Awards include the biggest names in sports, topped by multiple nominations for all-time ESPY Awards leader Tiger Woods, as well as Barry Bonds, Jennifer Capriati, Sarah Hughes, Cael Sanderson, Annika Sorenstam and various nominations involving the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Lakers and New England Patriots.
Included among the list of 2002 ESPY nominations is Maryland guard Juan Dixon who is one of five athletes nominated for the award as the Best Male College Athlete, regardless of sport. Other nominees include: Shane Battier, Duke, men's basketball; Eric Crouch, Nebraska, football; Cael Sanderson, Iowa State, wrestling, Jay (formerly Jason) Williams, Duke, men's basketball.
The Best Male College Athlete award, new in 2002, will include all college athletes who participated since the last ESPY Awards show, in February 2001.
The ESPY Awards will be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson on ESPN Wednesday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET. The program - featuring numerous entertainment celebrities and aired live from the event's new home, Kodak Theatre in Hollywood - will be preceded by a one-hour Live From the Red Carpet: The 2002 ESPY Awards at 8 p.m. on E! Entertainment Television.
