The NCAA men's basketball champions of the University of Maryland will be recognized as 2002's Team of the Year at the 99th annual Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Awards Banquet, on Monday, January 27, 2003.

On hand to accept the honor will be Terrapins' head coach Gary Williams, a native of Collingswood, N.J., who earlier in 2002 was recognized as the Eastern College Coach of the Year by the Herb Good Basketball Club.

Maryland completed a 32-4 season with a 64-52 victory over Indiana last April 1 in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The Terrapins also defeated Siena, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Connecticut and Kansas in tournament games en route to the final.
