Blake Named ACC Men's Basketball Co-Player Of The Week

Feb. 18, 2003

Wooden and Naismith National Player of the Year candidate Steve Blake was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Co-Player of the Week on Monday evening. The Terps' all-time assist leader, who moved into 10th place on the NCAA chart with a 21-point, nine assist effort in Maryland's victory over Wake Forest on Monday, received the Terps' first conference honor of the season for his efforts against Florida State last week.

Blake, also the school's all-time leader in games started with his 127th against Wake, scored Maryland's final seven points, including four free throws in the final 17.5 seconds, as the 16th-ranked Terrapins snapped a two-game losing streak with a 74-72 victory over the Seminoles. Blake finished 15 points, made a 3-pointer from the corner to break a 67-67 tie with 2:36 left and then clinched the win with his clutch free throws.

Blake currently totals 1,047 career points, 902 assists, 426 rebounds and 219 steals. He became the only player in ACC history with at least 1,000 points, 800 assists, 400 rebounds and 200 steals on Feb. 6.

Blake, an All-America candidate, shares this week's conference honor with Clemson's Edward Scott.
