COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The men's lacrosse battle between No. 5 Maryland and No. 6 Georgetown was postponed on Saturday due to unplayable field conditions at Maryland's Artificial Turf Facility. The game will be re-scheduled in April at a date to be determined.
Despite the snow storm earlier in the week and the rain overnight, the game was still scheduled to go on as planned. But after the officials walked the field prior to the 11 a.m., start time it was decided the turf was too dangerous with all of the water from the snow and rain beginning to seep under the playing surface causing it to be uneven and wavy.
This was to the be the first regular-season game between the local teams after scrimmaging for many years.
The Terps looks to open their 2003 regular-season next Saturday as they host ACC-rival No. 7 Duke at 1 p.m. on March 1. The game is the first of four Maryland appearances on WMAR Channel 2 in Baltimore.
