Maryland Alum Ryan Moran Named Men's Lacrosse Offensive Coordinator

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland Men's Lacrosse Head Coach John Tillman has announced the hiring of Maryland alumnus Ryan Moran as the Terrapins' offensive coordinator. Moran returns to College Park after previously serving as an assistant coach with the program from 2008-14.
"We are excited to have Ryan back in College Park, where he had a successful playing and coaching career," said Tillman. "He brings a wealth of experience with him that will be a great benefit to our players, not only on the field but off."

Moran most recently served as the head coach at UMBC from 2016-26, leading the Retrievers to three America East championships in 2019, 2021 and 2025. He was named America East Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2025.
Prior to his time at UMBC, Moran spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Loyola University Maryland from fall 2014 through spring 2016, helping the Greyhounds reach the NCAA Final Four in 2016. Between his time at Maryland and Loyola, Moran was part of four teams that reached the NCAA Final Four in a six-year span in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Maryland, Moran was a four-year letterwinner for the Terrapins from 2000-03. As a senior, Moran earned first-team All-ACC honors, was named a 2003 USILA third-team All-American, served as team captain and received the William Cole Award.
Following graduation, Moran coached at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Rhode Island before joining the Naval Academy staff as an assistant coach from 2006-08. During his time at Navy, Moran helped guide the Midshipmen to a pair of Patriot League championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances. He served as the team's offensive coordinator during his final season, while the Navy faceoff unit ranked among the nation's best, winning more than 56 percent of its draws in each season.
Moran returned to his alma mater in September 2008 as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach during his final two seasons in College Park. During his six seasons on the Maryland staff, Moran helped lead the Terrapins to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to Championship Weekend in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Maryland advanced to the NCAA championship game in 2011 and 2012 and captured the 2011 ACC championship.
During his tenure in College Park, Moran helped guide seven Maryland players to a combined 15 USILA All-America honors.
"Ryan has a great passion for the University of Maryland," said Tillman. "He has seen firsthand, both through his own experience and that of his teammates, how successful you can be with a degree from Maryland and the opportunities that come with attending such a prestigious institution."
Moran also played professional lacrosse in Major League Lacrosse from 2003-08, spending time with the Baltimore Bayhawks, Philadelphia Barrage and Long Island Lizards.
Moran comes from a lineage of top lacrosse coaches. His father, Jack, coached at Long Island powerhouse Chaminade High School for 43 years, amassing more than 600 career victories. Moran's great-uncle, the late Richie Moran, is a Maryland Athletics Hall of Famer and a U.S. Lacrosse National Hall of Fame member who led Cornell University to three national titles.
