  • Maryland defeated North Carolina, 96-56, to improve to 17-7 and 9-4 in the ACC. North Carolina falls to 14-12, 4-8 in the league. The Terps swept the Tar Heels during the regular season for the second straight year.

  • It was the most lopsided result in the 79-year history of the series. North Carolina defeated the Terps 102-66 (36-point margin) on March 13, 1993 and 64-28 on Jan. 7, 1946 in what were the previous most lopsided games in the series. Maryland posted a 33-point victory over the Tar Heels at Cole Field House last year in the Terps' previous largest win over UNC.

  • The 40-point loss matches the third-worst seback in UNC history.

  • The Terrapins have now defeated North Carolina in four-straight meetings. Maryland has won four straight over the Heels for the first time since winning four in a row from 1930 to 1932.

  • Maryland had its second best outing of the season in field goal percentage, connecting on 58 percent (40 of 69). The season best is 59.2 percent (42 of 71) vs. Hampton.

  • Maryland coach Gary Williams now finds himself two victories away from the 500-win plateau for his career. Williams is 498-278 in his 25th season as a major college head coach.

  • Gary Williams moved alone into fifth place on the all-time list for ACC victories, with his 123rd.

  • Steve Blake, who ranks 10th all-time on the NCAA career assist chart, had eight assists on the afternoon to up his four-year total to 919. In three games this week, Blake had 51 points and 26 assists.

  • John Gilchrist had career highs for points (11) and rebounds (nine).

  • Maryland's bench outscored the UNC bench 42-17.

  • All 13 Terrapin players saw action, and 12 scored.

  • The Terps held UNC to 32.8 percent shooting from the field. It is the 15th time this season the Terps have held an opponent to a field goal percentage below 40 percent. It was the eighth time the Terps have held an opponent to a field goal percentage under 33 percent.

  • Steve Blake has moved into third place in Maryland history for minutes played in a career (4,081).
