Post-Game Quotes: No. 1 Johns Hopkins 6, No. 5 Maryland (OT)

April 13, 2003

Recap| Final Stats

Maryland Head Coach Dave Cottle on the game's slow tempo:
"We sold to the kids that we wanted to control the tempo and maybe play a little slower than we wanted to play in the first quarter just so they couldn't get that lead they've been getting in every game. longer the game went if we were in it, we felt we had a good chance."

Cottle on where the Terps stand at 7-2 after the tough loss:
"We're a work in progress. When we lost up there last year, I wanted to throw up. I believe we're better than we were two years ago. But I was proud of this Maryland team. They competed from beginning to end."

Michael Howley on the tight games with Hopkins:
"It's frustrating. It feels like we're always playing a one-goal with them."

Johns Hopkins' Joe McDermott on his game-winning goal:
"That's definitely the biggest goal of my career. The original play was for Kevin Boland, but he drew the long pole," McDermott said. "I just ran behind, and the opportunity was there and I just ran with it."

McDermott on the Jays' overall team effort:
"Our defense played extremely well. Our offense has been clicking as of late, but our defense is the reason we won this game."
