GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland men's basketball freshman Mike Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) was selected the ACC's Co-Rookie of the Week after the Terp guard put up impressive numbers in last week's 87-38 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Jones had his most prolific collegiate game to date in the victory last Tuesday. He scored a career-high and game-high 25 points on a 6-of-11 shooting, including a 2-for-3 performance from beyond the arc and an 11-for-12 (.917) night at the free throw line.
His 25 points were the most by a Terp freshman since Drew Nicholas scored 27 in Nov. 1999, and tied the Terps' single-game scoring high for the season. Twenty-three of his points came in the second half. He also contributed career-high numbers in rebounds (6), assists (3), blocks (1) and steals (3) - all in a career-high 23 minutes.
The Rookie of the Week honor, which Jones shares with Wake Forest's Chris Paul, is the first for Jones in his career. He joins teammates John Gilchrist and D.J. Strawberry, who were named ACC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Dec. 15, as the Terrapin recipients of weekly conference honors this season.
